“Semper Imaginaria”, a one-of-a-kind visual dialogue between artists Ioana Ghilea and Mihai Țopescu

On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, starting from 18:30, we will be waiting for you at the Senso Gallery in Bucharest (Calea Victoriei 12C), at the vernissage of “Semper Imaginaria”, an exhibition by two remarkable artists, whose works of art are present in the gallery’s portfolio: Rodica Ioana Ghilea and Mihai Țopescu. The event’s opening will be hosted by Art Critic Pavel Șușară. The project is part of the exhibition programme ideated by Ana Ștefania Andronic (BUZU), Art Director of the Senso Gallery. With the support of Ana Daniela Sultana as a Curator, the “Semper Imaginaria” exhibition can be visited between the 8th of September and the 8th of October 2021, from Tuesday till Sunday, between 12:00 and 19:00.

“The ‘Semper Imaginaria’ exhibition offers a one-of-a-kind visual dialogue between Rodica Ioana Ghilea and Mihai Țopescu, two artists belonging to the 1980s creative generation, who were very quick to adapt to the international contemporary art system after 1989, at the same time managing to keep an obvious consistency in the approach of an authentic visual discourse. Focusing on nature as a theme, the exhibition selection demonstrates the transcendental force of decorative arts – which, for the past few decades, have been assimilated to major art forms – as well as the harmonious combination of materials and environments to which the two artists make recourse for their artistic expression. The connection element of this visual narrative is wood, either used as picture frames brought from a fair on the other side of the world and integrated by Rodica Ioana Ghilea into her works through upcycling, or integrated the installations created by Mihai Țopescu and present in the exhibition, which remind of Pădurea Colorată (The Coloured Forest). If Rodica Ioana Ghilea’s works contain ornithologic graphic representations, Mihai Țopescu reminds us of his high-profile past projects, belonging to the environmental activism area. The various techniques employed by the two nature-loving artists facilitate artistic vision, without imposing it, and each of them contributes, in their own way, to the consolidation of a collective awareness of the environmental setback that the human species is currently facing.” (Ana Daniela Sultana)
