“Masks, isolation, distance, restrictions, online classes. It’s the review of a year in which it was almost impossible to contextualize an artistic project without referring to the pandemic dimension of the moment. Some research in the field of psychology concludes that it takes 21 days to change a behavioral pattern. What skills have we acquired, what have we learned and what have we created since the first measures were imposed by the state of emergency decreed in March 2020? The group exhibition “Drawings of the past year” has as a theme the personal experience of each of the participating artists – students from the Department of Graphics at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the National University of Arts Bucharest, under the guidance of the coordinator of the year, PhD Anca Boeriu – regarding the passage through this period. The selection brings together works designed during this period, in the most diverse media of artistic expression, from drawing, painting and mixed media, to engraving, installations and stop motion animations, made digitally or analogically, frame by frame. Without necessarily intending to focus on the artistic production from the pandemic, the exhibition represents the intention to support the generation of local emerging artists, but also a subjective perspective on the historical sequence in which we find ourselves.” (Ana Sultana Cipariu, curator)
