Organized upon the initiative of Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu as Guest Curator, the project is part of the visual arts program conceived by Ana Ștefania Andronic (BUZU), Artistic Director of the exhibition space, and Ana Daniela Sultana – the Gallery’s Curator. The “Clouds & I Clouds” exhibition can be visited between the 4th and the 31st of August 2022, from Monday to Saturday, between 12 and 7 P.M. „Alexandru Claudiu Maxim, Augustin Răzvan Radu, Anca Boeriu, Beaver, Buzu, Denis Nanciu, Liliana Basarab, Maria Pop Timaru, Marian Cîmpeanu, Marian Codrea, Radu Carnariu, Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu, Robert Lörincz, Sergiu Chihaia and Teodora Gavrilă are the 15 artists who responded to the invitation launched by the Curator and the Senso Gallery, an invitation to contemplate with the eyes (of the mind) the skyline, the human soul or the glass, searching for all kinds of clouds. A metaphor of life on Earth, those that bring down the rain, but also those that stock information, space of human imaginary and projection of thoughts and fantasy, clouds have the purpose to bring God’s otherwise abstract presence into concrete life. Galactic clouds exist somewhere far away, and astrophysicists are still assuming why. Internet clouds (iClouds), a virtual yet real presence, support information stocked over the ether, circuits departing from (meta)computers and offering (meta, méga, hyper, über) information. Computers are created by mankind. Clouds are created by divinity, according to several beliefs and superstitions. Clouds were created by God to lay down the blanket and feed the Earth – water is the source of life. (i)Clouds can be seen, but they are not there, they are present through absence. A storm in the sky, a storm in iCloud, a storm in the glass, the storm of love, a storm under the flying plane, the rocket, the atomic bomb. Drought on Earth, hail in Olympus, a flight on skyscrapers, hackers in iClouds. Clouds and circuits, clouds and lightning, head in the clouds, a harvest when clouds are gone, balloons among clouds, Clouds and I Clouds, clouds are the metaphor of life on Earth and the warehouse of mental information, which, if missing, the present day and its organization would hardly be possible. They are shape, presence and absence.” – Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu “With ‘Clouds and iClouds’, artist and curator Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu offers us a definitely subjective eclectic selection of techniques and artworks, which, through the innovative association of images and representations, also offers us a perspective on her own artistic vision. Although the artistic-curatorial practice seems to be a relatively new hybrid, we already have academic literature testifying and theorizing this professional juxtaposition, ‘When Artists Curate: Contemporary Art and the Exhibition as Medium’ by Alison Green being just one concrete example in this respect. Through this broad exhibition project at the Senso Gallery, we are glad to open a series of collaborations, also with other guest curators, which are relevant for the contemporary art scene.” Ana Daniela Sultana
