Critical References
The effort of essentializing the image and the volume to the utmost extent, according to certain principles and in the name of an archetypal expressiveness do not push NRM’s sculptures, nor his paintings to the abstruse significant at any cost. On the contrary, their message is warm, direct, eloquent, stemming from the artist’s conviction that we can communicate with each other in both a rational and a heart-felt manner, profoundly and useful to everyone
According to the author, art, the aesthetic, aims to “build a base for meanings for justifying a major act of spirituality”. Primarily using geometrical order, but also the seduction of a geometry set ever since antiquity to highlight the beauty of the cosmos and ideas, as well as their territorial harmony, the artist fills his works with spiritual values, their sober, almost mystical symbolism, trying to confer a new brilliance to otherwise ancient meanings.
NRM’s sculpture especially distinguishes itself through a still, almost static dynamism, subliminal, but not less fascinating, while symmetry or mysticism of imbues the surfaces or volume with a brilliance and depth which manages to dematerialise though elevation, creating at the same time an atmosphere suitable for a beneficial, purifying contemplation. This “therapeutic” side of the works is all the more rewardable as the “archetypal” privacy promoted by the artist swims against the social tide we live in today, agitate, depersonalized and standardizing - Nicolae Macovei, art critic, writer.
